The FanSided soccer staff make their predictions for the weekend’s Premier League games, including Liverpool vs. Tottenham at Anfield.
The first Premier League matchweek of the month kicks off on Saturday, but the highlight of the weekend comes on Sunday, when Tottenham take on Liverpool at Anfield, seeking to do the double over Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Spurs go into the match on the back of a dominant victory against Manchester United on Wednesday. Christian Eriksen opened the scoring after only 11 seconds, and the home side cruised through the rest of the match, winning 2-0.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will also take encouragement from their first league match against Liverpool this season. They overwhelmed the Reds with a high-intensity pressing performance, running out 4-1 winners.
Liverpool are also in good form overall. They lost two games in a row — one in the league, one in the FA Cup — following their win against Manchester City, but returned to winning ways with a 3-0 away to Huddersfield on Tuesday, and have now lost only twice in 21 matches.
This should be an exciting match, with two confident teams who like to attack going head to head with a spot in the top four on the line. Fifth-place Tottenham can leapfrog third-place Liverpool with a win.
The other standout fixtures of the weekend see league leaders Manchester City travel to Burnley; Arsenal, fresh off a bad defeat to Swansea, host Everton; Watford play Chelsea, who lost to Bournemouth midweek.
