The Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday Feb. 9 at Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium at 8 p.m. KT or 6 a.m. ET.
The 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony takes place at 8 p.m. Korea Time, which is 6 a.m. ET on Feb. 9, 2018. A live stream of the Opening Ceremony from Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium in Pyeongchang, South Korea will be available at NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
NBC will air the Opening Ceremony again on prime time television in the United States at 8 p.m. ET. The Opening Ceremony runs approximately three hours, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.
Keep in mind that while the Opening Ceremony takes place on Friday, Feb. 9, the first Winter Olympics events begin with mixed doubles curling at 8:35 a.m. KT Thursday, which will air Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6:35 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Later in the evening on Wednesday, at 11 p.m., you can watch Alpine skiing training (not part of the competition) and ski jumping starting at 7 a.m. ET on Friday.
This will be the first time South Korea has hosted the winter games; they previously hosted the Summer Olympics in Seoul back in 1988.
Musical performers including Bolbbalgan4’s Ahn Ji Young, Deulgukhwa’s Jeon In-kwon, Guckkasten’s Ha Hyun-woo, popular R&B K-Pop singer Hyolyn, “R&B Diva” Insooni, and opera singers Sumi Jo and Ryu Jung-Phil are set to perform at the Opening Ceremony. Big Bang singer-songwriter Taeyang is an honorary ambassador appointed to this year’s games.
There will be a special augmented reality presentation at the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony as well which is sure to leave a lasting impression:
"The Ceremony message will centre on peace, with five children from rural Gangwon province leading the fairytale adventure, and will include animals, nature and a cast of 2,000. Augmented Reality and 5G technology will be incorporated but the primary focus is on the people."

Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium is a temporarily constructed stadium specifically built with the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2018 Winter Olympic/Paralympic Games in mind. It seats 35,000 and owns a unique pentagonal shape seen from an aerial view. Katie Couric and Mike Tirico will be hosting the Opening Ceremony for NBC.
A total of 242 Team USA athletes will be representing the United States at the Winter Olympics. Team USA will compete in 97 of 102 medal events at this year’s winter games.
