The 2018 30-team NBA mega-trade that solves nothing and makes everyone mad
By Ian Levy
Utah Jazz
Sending out: Derrick Favors (CHI), Ricky Rubio (ORL)
Bringing in: Dragan Bender (PHX), Justise Winslow (MIA), Danny Green (SAS), Jerryd Bayless (PHI)
Say hello to the new Utah Jazz. The future of this team is about Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. This deal goes a long way towards helping to fill out the rotation between those two guys. Parting with Favors and Rubio would be tough but Favors is likely gone anyway and moving Rubio allows them more flexibility with their style of play.
Dragan Bender is a versatile big man with immense offensive and defensive potential. He’s been developing slowly but still has tremendous upside. Here in Utah, he can focus on playing power forward exclusively and his quickness, shooting and passing make him a great complement next to Bender. Winslow has shown some growth in his shooting ability this year and his passing and defense would be welcome on the wing.
Green or Bayless could be useful as veteran stopgaps, both are on contracts that expire at the end of next season. They could even be flipped again for other pieces. Add in Rodney Hood, if they can make the numbers work and there is another shooter and playmaker to slot into the starting lineup. Mitchell – Hood – Winslow – Bender – Gobert would be lineup with fantastic potential at both ends of the floor and a young group for the Jazz to grow into the future.
