Looking at five trades that LeBron James would turn down on Thursday.

LeBron James may or may not be traded at the deadline. I would lean towards “not be traded,” but that’s because I’m a logical spectator and not (poorly) running a basketball franchise. Even if the Cavaliers wanted to trade LeBron, he has a no-trade clause that would allow him to veto any potential deal.

James likely isn’t long for Cleveland. No amount of hugs from Dwyane Wade can cure the current state of the franchise. He’s saddled with injured players and past their prime stars. 100 percent of this is his fault for not being more direct with the franchise. You can’t say, “we need another playmaker” and then be upset when they sign Derrick Rose. You have to specifically name who you want, LeBron. That’s the only way Dan Gilbert knows if he’s doing good.

The Cavaliers are unlikely to trade James. They should. They should not wait for James to leave them on a television special or a blog post in July. They should go ahead and get what they can for the superstar, thank him for the championship in a comic sans typed letter, and hope they get a player as good as Kyrie Irving in the next five years. That’s what they should do.

But they won’t.

Because LeBron has that no-trade clause. And unless he’s traded to the Spurs, he’s not waiving his no-trade clause. And he’s definitely not waiving his no-trade clause if the Cavaliers come back to him with these five trades.
