Tony Dungy has no time for Josh McDaniels

A former Indianapolis Colts head coach has weighed in on the current state of the job, and he did not mix words.

For seven successful years the Indianapolis Colts were coached by Tony Dungy. He is the most winning coach in the franchise’s history. People still associate Dungy with the Colts even though it has been almost 10 years since he retired.

It was no surprise to see Dungy weigh in on how Josh McDaniels handled the Colts job. Replying to an article on Monday Morning Quarterback on Twitter, Dungy expressed disdain for McDaniels decision.

By now most have heard the McDaniels was set to be introduced as the new coach of the Colts. The team had set up a press conference to announce the new hire. Official team accounts on social media also were touting the hire.

McDaniels staff was beginning to come together. He has a defensive coordinator in place in Matt Eberflus formerly of the Dallas Cowboys. Eberflus and the rest of the staff that already signed their contracts will remain with the Colts despite McDaniels leaving.

Those men who left their current jobs, and possibly other opportunities on the table to work with McDaniels are the ones that Dungy is understandably sympathetic towards.

On the same day that the deal was announced, Adam Schefter broke the story that McDaniels instead will opt to stay with the Patriots. According to Schefter, McDaniels met with Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft and was enticed to pull out of the deal with the Colts.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard echoed Dungy’s statement in a press conference on Wednesday. It seemed that Ballard was as shocked by the move as the rest of the world. However he did state that the team will not panic and already have interview requests in place.

Now the Colts will move on to other candidates. Indianapolis now has to mesh the pieces they have in place with whoever is hired to run the show.
