Yankees acquire Russell Wilson from Texas Rangers

The New York Yankees now boast the deepest roster of non-baseball playing baseball players after acquiring Russell Wilson from the Texas Rangers.

Someone call the fire department! The MLB Hot Stove has officially reached its peak temperature with the most important transaction of the offseason.

While baseball’s 29 other general managers were hard at work looking for baseball players to improve their roster, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman went out and got himself a football player, further cementing his status as one of the best personnel guys in the business.

Jokes aside, Wilson, the current Seahawks quarterback, has a rather extensive baseball background. He was originally selected by the Colorado Rockies (and once out of high school by the Baltimore Orioles) in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft before returning to football for good after two seasons in the minor leagues. His baseball career was re-sparked once again after the Rangers selected him in the Rule 5 Draft in 2013.

Wilson made some appearances at spring training for the Rangers, where he mostly had the duty of speaking to players about his preparation and mindset as an athlete. He is clearly happy about the change of scenery and released this statement through his website.

The Seahawks won’t have to worry about Wilson spurning them to make another pursuit of a career on the diamond, although one has to wonder whether Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton could be persuaded to throw on some pads and a helmet to join Seattle’s much-maligned offensive line.

From the Rangers perspective, the trade return is subpar at best. Future Considerations is a plus defender, but I’m honestly just not convinced the bat is going to be enough to play every day, which is something you always look for in return for Pro Bowl quarterback.

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Russell Wilson will never not be linked to Future, even when it’s being traded in a sport he doesn’t play.
