2018 NBA Mock Draft: Mohamed Bamba could be the Suns’ last building block
Alkins could fit well for the next great Blazers team.
Portland’s roster and cap situations will finally start to reboot over the next two summers, with guys like Ed Davis and Jusuf Nurkic entering free agency. Additionally, Shabazz Napier and Pat Connaughton could leave the team this summer after breakthrough performances for each. Portland will need to replenish the young depth it built around its incredible backcourt.
Alkins is one of the most consistent players in the country. Since returning to the starting lineup, he has scored fewer than 10 points just twice. He has made multiple 3s in nearly every game he has played, all while developing as a play-maker and transition finisher.
And of course his defense could be game-changing for an uneven team like Portland.
Alkins looks ready to compete sooner than many first-rounders, and the Blazers have always given their young players a chance to play. It’s a good fit.
