History will be made in Pyeongchang this year, with Jordan Greenway becoming the first African American to play for Team USA Hockey.

Boston University fans absolutely love Jordan Greenway, and by the time this years Winter Olympics are over, all USA hockey fans will love him too. The 6′-foot-5, 230-pound forward was selected in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild.

Greenway has made headlines in the weeks preceding the Winter Olympics because of his race, and the team he is playing for. When he steps on the ice for Team USA’s first game on Feb.14th, he will officially become the first African American hockey player to play in the Olympics since Olympic hockey was introduced in 1920.

But, he is no stranger to Team USA and International play. Greenway played his first International action in 2013, when he played for the U.S. National U17 team in the Four Nations Tournament, where he recorded three points in four outings.

He kept up his success in 2014, posting three points over four games yet again, this time playing for the U.S. National U17 Team in the World U17 Hockey Challenge. The U.S. won that tournament, in fact. The same group of guys won the 2014 Five Nations Tournament, where Greenway registered two points in four games.

He went on to play for the U.S. National U18 Team in 2015, registering two points in four games at the U18 Five Nations Tournament. He followed that up by being a point per game player through seven games in the U18 World Championship that same year.

Greenway tied for second on the U.S. team that was sent to the World Junior Championship in 2017, and collected Player of the Game rights in their game against Latavia. He also played in eight games that year in the World Championships.

One of his goals against Team Canada really shows his nose for the net and soft hands, check it out:

He even had tremendous success in his youth hockey days, playing three full seasons for the very prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s.  For comparison, the following players are also alumni of Shattuck St Mary’s: Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Nathan MacKinnon, and Zach Parise, among numerous other NHLers.

Following his time at Shattuck St. Mary’s, Greenway went on to play hockey for Boston University, where he is currently a Junior studying Psychology. In his first two years at BU, he was the Hockey East Top Performer five times, as well as Hockey East Player of the Week and Hockey East Rookie of the Week. This season, he has put up a total of eight points in 13 games, while blocking 38 shots.
