Ray Bourque is a legendary Hockey name. His son, Chris Bourque, is looking to add even more meaning to his family name at this years Winter Olympics.

Chris Bourque is on the smaller side for a hockey player, checking in at 5-foot-8 and 174 pounds. Being a 2004 second-round draft pick, Bourque has some NHL action under his belt, playing 51 NHL games with three different clubs. Being a player with NHL experience could pay dividends in this years Olympic Games.

When he wasn’t playing in the NHL, he was absolutely tearing it up in the American Hockey League, having played 697 regular-season AHL games and 133 playoff games. In that time, he registered 680 points, along with 117 points in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

In the AHL, Bourque has both championship experience and leadership experience, which will make him a huge presence in the Team USA locker room. In 2005-06, Bourque won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears. Two years later he was the Bears team MVP, and he won another Calder Cup with them in ’09. The following campaign saw Bourque win another Calder Cup, all while being named the AHL Playoff MVP.

In the 2011-12 he registered the most points in the AHL, along with the most assists. Most recently, in 2016, Bourque again recorded the most points in the AHL, and was voted AHL MVP.

Bourque also played some professional hockey in Switzerland in the NLA. He skated for HC Lugano in ’10-’11, scoring 33 points in 39 games. Somehow, his high level hockey experience doesn’t end there. Bourque skated for Boston University during the 2004-05 season, scoring 23 points in 35 games.

Finally, he has International Experience as well. Bourque played in the World Junior Championships in ’05 and ’06, leading the team in goals in the latter year. In 2013, the U.S. Men’s Select team won the Deutschland Cup, and Bourque had three points in three games.
