Is there a better Biathlon name than Leif Nordgren? (No, there is not)

Leif Nordgren not only partakes in the Olympic Biathlon, but he’s also on Team USA. He might win, but does he have the best Biathlon name at Pyeongchang?

The United States of America usually dominates everything sports, business and whatever. However, an Olympic medal has evaded this great country of ours in one particular Winter Olympic sport for some time: biathlon. Could that change in 2018 in Pyeongchang? Well, let’s hope the great Leif Nordgren has a thing or two to say about that.

Yes, Leif Nordgren is the name of a real guy doing real things at the Winter Olympics in South Korea. Most importantly, he’s doing it for America, and that’s all that matters. Though his name sounds like he could be a James Bond villain or slap the bass, mon in an ABBA/Europe cover band called The Final Countdown Fernandos, he’s 28 years old and lives in the most Scandinavian state in America called Minnesota.

So we’re going to do the math, as in count to five, make a list and figure it out that way. Does this mean Nordgren has the champion of all names entering the James Bond realm of the Olympic Biathlon? Let’s hope so.

Top 5 names of 2018 Winter Olympic Biathletes

  1. Leif Nordgren
  2. Vladimir Iliev
  3. Amanda Lightfoot
  4. Anton Babikov
  5. Frederik Lindstroem
  6. Michail Kletcherov
  7. Klemen Bauer
  8. Tobias Eberhard

Okay, so I lied and gave you eight names. There are other biathletes given and surnames to choose from, so check it out here. So the trick here is to figure out which person’s name sounds most like a Bond villain and pick that one. I did throw in Amanda Lightfoot from the United Kingdom because that totally sounds like somebody who could be a colleague of Bond at MI6.

As for the other six names included that aren’t Lightfoot or Nordgren, the most awesome name of any biathlete has to be Vladimir Iliev. When your name begins with and ends with v’s, you belong in a screen adaptation of an Ian Fleming novel or you should be doing some biathlon things in the Winter Olympics. Mostly cross-country skiing and shooting targets because that’s what the biathlon is at its core.

Sure, Anton Babikov, Frederick Lindstroem, Michail Kletcherov, Klemen Bauer and Tobias Eberhard gave Nordgren a run for his money. However, only Nordgren, Iliev and Lightfoot medal in this year’s 2018 Winter Olympic Games for having an awesome biathlon name. The reason that Nordgren wins over Iliev and Lightfoot is because he’s an American and I’m an American and that’s why. Go ‘Murica!
