NBA Power Rankings: Everything revolves around LeBron James
By Daniel Lewis
The Magic had their best week since October, winning three of their four games this week. They also shipped their starting point guard, Elfrid Payton, to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for a second-round pick. They started the week with a road win over the Miami Heat, 111-109. Mario Hezonja had 20 points in a start for Aaron Gordon, who is out with a hip injury. The referees reversed a goaltending call on Bismack Biyombo with 2.8 seconds left, and the Heat couldn’t get a shot off after the call was changed to try to send the game to overtime. The Magic stunned the Cavaliers on Tuesday, rallying from a 21-point deficit on the second night of a back-to-back to defeat Cleveland 116-98. The 39-point swing was one of the most surprising things to happen this season, and the Magic held the Cavs to just nine points in the final quarter.
The Magic held off the Hawks on Thursday, with D.J. Augustin making two free throws with seven seconds remaining to put the team up five points, and then Taurean Prince made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make the final score 100-98. The Magic weren’t able to beat the Bucks, who were in town on the second night of a back-to-back, losing 111-104. They kept things close throughout the evening, with Mario Hezonja scoring 23 points to lead the team, but the Bucks pulled away in the final minute. The Magic missed 14 straight 3-point attempts in the game — they have to be hoping they can get Trae Young in the NBA Draft. If they start losing again, they may have the first pick and can pick whichever prospect they want.
