Adam Rippon dedicated his Olympic bronze medal to actress Reese Witherspoon, and his mom in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has been all over the news lately for his sometimes hilarious comments about everything from Vice President Mike Pence, Olympics kisses and athletes eyebrows so it’s no shocker that Rippon would take the opportunity to show his personality on the podium.

“I owe this medal to my mom, but more to Reese Witherspoon because she has more Instagram followers,” Rippon said.

The Oscar award-winning actress has tweeted a few times to her fans urging them to check out Rippon, much to his delight.

“When I saw it I said ‘Reese, finally,'” Rippon said. “I want to go out there and make my family proud. I want to make my mom proud and more than anything I want to make Reese Witherspoon proud.”

Rippon helped Team USA  earn a bronze medal in the figure skating team competition this week but there was some controversy over the scoring as he placed lower in the judge’s eyes than Russian skater Mikhail Kolyada and Canadian skater Patrick Chan (who both fell during their performances).

Rippon was thrust into the spotlight for being one of the first openly gay athletes to take a stand at the Olympics. He and the Vice President have been in a somewhat heated feud after reports of anti-gay sentiments from Pence circulated the news. Rippon says he will not visit with Pence following the Olympics due to his lack of support for the LGBTQ community.

He will skate for the men’s individual competition later this week.

The short program will be held on Friday, Feb. 16 with the free skate and medals on Saturday, Feb. 17. This is the first Olympics for Rippon who narrowly missed inclusion to Team USA for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
