2018 NFL mock draft: Saquon Barkley heads to Giants
By Brad Weiss
After four seasons at the helm of the Detroit Lions, the organization decided to part ways with Jim Caldwell after the 2017 campaign. Caldwell won 36 games as the head coach of the Lions, and got the team to the playoffs in two seasons. However, the Lions really underachieved in 2017, and the team felt it was in the best interest of the franchise to move in another direction moving forward.
Enter Matt Patricia, who had been the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots prior to coming to the Motor City. Patricia is an incredible defensive mind, and his talents should go far into making this Lions defense even better in 2018. With their first round pick in April, Detroit should look to add to their defensive roster, bringing in edge rusher Harold Landry from Boston College.
Landry could have been a first round pick in 2017, but decided to head back to college for his senior campaign. He has the kind of speed and power you look for in an edge rusher, and you can believe that Patricia will know exactly what to do with him if they decide to nab him at No. 20. The edge rusher position is one of the more important roles on any defense, and Landry has the talent to be an elite player at getting after the quarterback at the next level.
