Men’s hockey is starting! Germany and Finland face off in the first game for Group C, here’s how you can watch the live stream.

Germany need to knock off one of either Finland or Sweden if they want a chance at the first round bye in the knockout round. What better way to kick off their tournament than upsetting a very talented Finland team. Group C is officially the group of death, having all four teams in the top ten of the IIHF world rankings.

Group A has South Korea and Group B has Slovenia, but there is no “easy game” in Group C. The German team is pegged to finish third in the group, just nudging out Norway. A win against Finland would be huge, but highly unlikely. If the Germans are competitive however, it will bode well for them moving into the knockout round.

Finland, alongside Sweden, are the obvious top teams in the group. Sweden may be third in the rankings, but Finland is right behind them in fourth. Too good to be considered a dark horse, some analysts have pegged Finland as their “team to watch”.

If Finland gets the ball, or puck, rolling with a victory against Germany their rode to earning a first round bye becomes that much easier. Their captain, Lasse Kukkonen, has been around the block. With experience in the NHL, KHL and SEL the Finn has played in basically every major league. He will be vital to the success of the Finnish team, at 36 however, it may be his last Olympics.
