1. Trey Burton, TE

Former team: Philadelphia Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys had to watch their division rivals in the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl this year. One way to stick it to them a bit would be steal one of their Super Bowl heroes. Trey Burton, the team’s back-up tight, would be a good addition for Dallas.

Jason Witten is one of the NFL’s best tight ends of all time. He is also 35 years old. His inability to stretch the seam and lack of athleticism is going to hurt this offense moving forward. Witten’s starting spot is not in jeopardy but an athletic tight end to partner with him would make a big difference for this team.

Burton was a former quarterback in college. That is why Philadelphia let him throw the now infamous “Philly Special” that led to quarterback Nick Foles catching a touchdown in the Super Bowl. He is an athletic specimen who filled in nicely for the Eagles when starting tight end Zach Ertz went down.

The former undrafted free agent is only 26 years old. He may actually get priced out of this conversation. If Dallas can grab him at a decent rate he could do wonders. With his ability to line up all over the field, he would give Prescott another weapon in the offense.

The team is desperately missing athleticism at the tight end position, and someone to create mismatches. Jason Witten is one of my favorite players ever but he is not the guy anymore. Burton could be and he is also young enough to fit in a long-term plan for the team.
