Here’s an updated bracket after the quarterfinal portion of the medal round of Olympics women’s hockey.

Olympics women’s hockey has been stealing the show so far in Pyeongchang. With the preliminary round already out of the way, the medal round’s semifinals are now set. Finland beat Sweden 7-2 in the quarterfinals to earn a match against Team USA. Meanwhile, the Olympic Athletes from Russia get to face Canada after beating Switzerland 6-2.

As far as the fifth-place bracket, we now know that Korea will be facing Switzerland and Sweden will be facing Japan. The winners of those two classification games will go to the championship game of the fifth-place bracket. Meanwhile, the losers will play in the seventh-place match.

Here’s an updated bracket that reflects all of the action.

It should come as no surprise the four remaining teams in the medal round are from Group A. The way the Olympics is set up, the four top-ranked teams in the world (using IIHF rankings) get put into one group. Group B consists of the other four teams. The reason this is done is to encourage parity and ensure Canada and Team USA don’t steamroll the other teams too badly.

Canada will face the Olympic Athletes from Russia in the upper portion of the bracket. The last time the two teams faced was in the preliminary round. Canada topped OAR 5-0 in that game. Meanwhile, Team USA will get a rematch against Finland. America beat Finland in the preliminary round 3-1 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score suggests.

Since women’s hockey became an Olympic sport in 1998, all but one of the gold medal games have been between Team USA and Canada. Don’t expect any different this year. Canada is aiming for a fifth consecutive gold medal. Meanwhile, Team USA would be going for its first gold medal since 1998. Both Finland and the Olympic Athletes from Russia would be going for their first-ever gold medals in women’s hockey should they pull off upsets.
