When are the next Winter Olympics?

The 2018 Winter Olympics are underway in South Korea, but when will the next Winter Games be played?
The 2018 Winter Olympics are being hosted in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The Winter Olympics, like the Summer Olympics, are played once every four years. Originally, the Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics were played in the same year but they split them up to alternate every four years.
So after 2018, the next Winter Olympics will be hosted in Beijing, China in 2022. The opening ceremony will be on February 4, 2022 and the closing ceremony will be on February 20, 2022. That’s roughly 48 months from these games.
Beijing also becomes the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Beijing hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics when Michael Phelps set his record for most gold medals in a single Summer Games. It also is China’s first Winter Olympics.
The next two Summer Olympics will be hosted in Tokyo in 2020 and Paris in 2024. Coincidentally, the 2022 Winter Games will be the third Olympics held in Asia. The Winter Olympics after Beijing in 2022 will be played in 2026, but a host city has not been determined yet.
The United States is exploring a bid to host the 2026 Winter Olympics in either Salt Lake City or Lake Placid. Both sites have previously hosted the Winter Olympics. Calgary, Canada is also amongst the cities exploring a bid.
