The ice dance competition concludes with the free dance at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Here’s what you need to watch on TV and online.

Team USA had a very strong showing in the ice dance short dance program at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Over the course of the event, the lead changed hands several times, with Team USA occupying the top two spots for a time. All three United States teams had strong skates, with Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue’s 77.75 narrowly edging Maia and Alex Shibutani’s 77.73.

In the end, it was the Canadian powerhouse team of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir who landed in first place after the short dance, followed by France’s Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron in second and Team USA’s Hubbell and Donohue in third. Virtue and Moir set a record with their skate, earning an 83.67 for the lead heading into the free dance. The Shib Sibs ended up in fourth place while Madison Chock and Evan Bates finished in seventh.

Of the 24 teams competing, only the top 16 teams advance to the free dance on Monday. The medals will be determined by the combination of the short dance and the free dance, so all 16 of those teams still have a chance to make the podium in theory. We already know that the Shib Sibs have a beautiful free dance program, but now we will see what Hubbell and Donohue and Madison Chock and Evan Bates will bring to the competition.

There’s no question that Team USA has a good shot at a medal in ice dance, but it will all come down to the free skate.
