Another Tim Lincecum comeback might be in the works, as he reportedly has a guaranteed MLB contract offer on the table.

According to Grant Brisbee of SB Nation, former Cy Young award-winning pitcher Tim Lincecum has received an offer from an MLB team. That team is apparently not the San Francisco Giants, though. So it looks like a reunion is not in order.

Right now, the team reported to have extended an offer to Lincecum is a mystery. Brisbee speculates that it might be the San Diego Padres. It seems like they could be a fit. They’re expected to be a last place team this season. But they’ve stockpiled some of the most talented prospects in the league. So landing a veteran pitcher whose name alone could attract an audience until those prospects are ready would make some sense.

Lincecum last pitched for Los Angeles Angels in 2016. But it ended up being a disaster of a season for the right-handed pitcher. He went 2-6 with a whopping 9.16 ERA, 7.16 FIP and 2.374 WHIP over 38 1/3 innings pitched. Considering those numbers, Lincecum must’ve really put on a show at his showcase for scouts to get an offer for the 2018 season.

He reportedly was able to hit 93 MPH, which is about how fast he was throwing at the peak of his career. That’s impressive considering he was averaging under 89 MPH on his fastball in 2015 and 2016.

Lincecum is best known for his amazing run with the Giants. He won two consecutive NL Cy Young awards with the team in 2008 and 2009. From 2008-11, he went 62-36 with a 2.81 ERA while averaging 10 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

It’s highly unlikely Lincecum will be a Cy Young-caliber pitcher again, but hitting 93 MPH is a good sign that he might have more success this time around than he did in 2016. If he does indeed make a comeback, we can only hope he grows out his hair again.
