After getting benched in Super Bowl 52, Malcolm Butler is heading to free agency. Here are five teams he could fit in with this offseason.

Malcolm Butler ended his 2017 campaign as the hot topic heading into this year’s free agency period, but not exactly on a high note after he sat on the New England Patriots bench in Super Bowl 52. He’s the most-talked-about player going into the offseason, and teams will surely see the need for him that the Patriots don’t.

Butler will likely have a lot of options to pick from as these next few months go along, with plenty of teams hoping to gain his services to help transform their defense for the 2018 season. Whether it’s an AFC East rival of the Patriots or a change in scenery by heading out west, Butler could get a fresh start in an instant.

With all of the options out there, it may be a tough choice for Butler to make. To make it easy for the Super Bowl XLIX hero, here are the five best fits for Butler as he looks to find a new home this offseason.

5. Buffalo Bills

Right off the bat, we’ll get two easy options out of the way before we get into the real nitty gritty. First off, it would make some easy sense for Butler to head a bit west of Foxboro and move to New York to play for the Buffalo Bills.

The appeal to playing in the AFC is pretty obvious, as it would give Butler the chance to show Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots what they’re missing out on for two games out of the year. The Bills always seem to give the Patriots fits, especially with how chippy things get, and it’d give Butler the opportunity to potentially put a dent in the Patriots’ run for another Super Bowl appearance next year.

The Bills are also on the come-up with how they played this past season, finally getting themselves a playoff berth after all of these years. While it didn’t go in their favor, Butler helping out in the secondary could help to push them forward in their push for a successful postseason.

Add in the fact that the Bills are in desperate need of help defensively ever since Stephon Gilmore left to take Butler’s spot in the Patriots defense, and this all makes perfect sense for Butler to jump on. Butler takes Gilmore’s previous spot after Gilmore takes his, and all is right in the world.
