LB. Virginia Tech. Tremaine Edmunds. 10. player. 28.

*San Francisco and Oakland will flip a coin as a tiebreaker to determine the order of the ninth and tenth selections.

The Raiders love athletes with freakish athleticism for their position and Virginia Tech linebacker is one player that could fit the bill for them with the tenth overall pick.

Edmunds, by far the youngest player in the draft, is quickly ascending up draft boards and figures to hear his name called early in the first round come draft day. Edmunds possesses elite athleticism, especially for his size (6-foot-5, 250 pounds), and loggesd 90+ tackles in each of the past two seasons for the Hokies. Edmunds’ father was a two-time Pro Bowl tight end with the Dolphins in the late 80s, so he certainly brings good football genes to the table as well.

When watching Edmunds on film, his range immediately becomes apparent, as he has the speed to cover both tight ends and running backs out of the backfield. He’s a sound tackler and possesses long, powerful limbs that make him a dangerous rusher coming off the edge.

Edmunds still has a long ways to go in terms of play recognition, as he can sometimes tend to get lost by misdirection in the backfield and relies too much on his pure athleticism. But with further development at the next level, Edmunds’ age and freakish athletic traits make him one of the highest-upside players in the entire class. Not a bad piece to add for new head coach Jon Gruden.
