2018 NFL Mock Draft: Browns land Baker Mayfield
By Conor Dorney
Despite the possibility of Eli Manning returning to the Giants’ starting quarterback role for the 2018 season, all signs point to the team looking for his heir apparent with the second-overall pick.
UCLA’s Josh Rosen is perhaps the most pro-ready quarterback of any in this draft class and it’s a big reason why I expect him to be the first at the position off the board come draft day.
Rosen endured a somewhat tumultuous tenure as a Bruin, and some people feel there are several character flaws that could hinder his development. These are all questions and debates best left to front office personnel, who will ultimately have the most information and resources available to them. One thing that is certain is Rosen’s enormous upside on the field.
Rosen has prototypical size (6-foot-4, 218 pounds) for the position and possesses the arm strength necessary to make every throw at the next level. He’ll at times go through stretches where he takes far too many unnecessary risks with the football but he is by far the most advanced quarterback in this class in terms of his ability to manipulate defenses with his eyes.
Having already been the big man on campus in L.A., Rosen seems to have the type of no-nonsense personality capable of handling the New York spotlight that comes with replacing a quarterback as beloved as Eli Manning.
