Case Keenum rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
3. Buffalo Bills
The Bills are set to finally cut ties with Tyrod Taylor this offseason, and Nathan Peterman proved he has a long way to go in the one start he made as a rookie. So the addition of a veteran quarterback this offseason looks like a prerequisite for a team that finally ended a lengthy playoff drought last year, if only to keep some momentum going.
The Bills need to seek upgrades at wide receiver and along the offensive line as well this offseason. So a huge splash in free agency for a quarterback would probably be a bad allocation of resources, and that should easily put Keenum on their list of options to consider.
Keenum would not be a substantial upgrade over Taylor. But he may come at little cheaper, and freeing up $15 million in cap space by making Taylor a post-June 1 cut would allow Buffalo to move forward without incident.
The Bills will have success in much the same fashion the Vikings do, as a quarterback mostly just needs to avoid big mistakes and occasionally come up with a gutsy throw. Keenum proved he can serve in that mold, even if 2017 winds up clearly being his career year.
