The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees has simmered in recent years, but it could be back in the near future.

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are two storied teams that haven’t gotten at each other in recent years. They are the greatest baseball rivalry of all-time, but it has been lacking in recent years. With that said, this offseason may have rekindled the must-see TV that we all crave when the Yankees shocked the baseball world earlier in the offseason when they acquired NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton.

When that move went down, everyone was waiting on what Boston would fire back with. That move long at an impasse when talks for slugger J.D. Martinez broke down. His camp wanted a seven-year, $210 million deal, a contract no team was going to offer.

The huge star class of free agents next year may have hindered the market, as teams want to hold off until then. Still, the Red Sox ultimately landed Martinez on their terms with a 5-year,$110 million deal.

Now, the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry could be back as both teams are at the top of the AL East. They’re two big-market clubs that know how to win and will try to one-up the other team. Boston desperately needed a power hitter to insert in the middle of the lineup. When the Stanton trade went down, Boston fans were scratching their heads because the package to get him wasn’t strong. Fast forward to today, and there is a feeling that hasn’t been felt in a long time. The two teams are both one of the best in the MLB, and the squads are stacked.

For even greater joy in baseball, hopefully, it can get back to the days of Jason Varitek and Alex Rodriguez. If the two teams meet in October, there will be a nostalgic feeling throughout the baseball world. They both have sluggers who can go deep at any time, as well as a competitive pitching staff. Resuming the rivalry is great for baseball.
