Norway’s Marit Bjørgen wins gold in Women’s 30 km Mass Start Classic

Norway’s Marit Bjørgen became the most decorated Winter Olympian of all time after winning the gold in the Women’s 30 km Mass Start Classic.

Marit Bjørgen didn’t just win gold at the Women’s 30 km Mass Start Classic; she absolutely dominated the event.

Bjørgen obtained a lead early and just increased the gap as the race went on toward her 15th gold medal. She now owns eight gold medals, four silver and three bronze.

A true champion, Bjørgen medaled in every single event she participated in this Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. That’s four medals in her fifth Winter Olympics, truly an impressive one-of-a-kind feat!

Bjørgen’s four medals firmly established her home country Norway on top of the medal count with a total of 39 medals (14 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze).

Finland’s Krista Pärmäkoski won the silver medal and, Sweden’s Stina Nilsson won the bronze medal. All three were absolutely thrilled to receive their medals at the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony.

Stina Nillsson looked especially emotional and happy beyond words upon receiving her medal from IOC President Thomas Bach at the Closing Ceremony. Nillson won four total medals in Pyeongchang: one gold, two silvers and the bronze. She’s previously won a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Silver medalist Krista Pärmäkoski took home three medals at these Winter Olympic games, the silver and two bronze medals. She previously won a silver medal back at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

This is gold medalist Marit Bjørgen’s final Winter Olympic games, and she finished in style. Her five medals in Pyeongchang were the most of any athlete competing at the 2018 Winter Games. Bjørgen reflected on the moment in an interview:

"“When I look behind me and see what I have done, it’s incredible. It has been an amazing career for me, this is my last Olympics and to finish like this is incredible."
