2018 NFL Draft: Washington Redskins 7-round mock
By Joe Romano
Round 5 – Pick 151
Mark Walton, RB, Miami
The Redskins can finally address their offense in the fifth round. This is a round later than they drafted former Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine a year ago. Perine was splitting time with Chris Thompson, before Thompson was injured. What they lack is a back that can play on three downs. It was easy for teams to key in when Perine and Thompson were on the field whether they were going to pass or run.
Again, a deep draft class at the position benefits Washington. They opt for Miami running back Mark Walton. Another player that is being overshadowed due to a deep position. Walton is also being overlooked because he was injured for the majority of the season.
When healthy Walton showed why he is a popular pick for draft Twitter’s crush. Despite only being 5-foot-10 he plays like a power back. His short and stout frame lends itself to being able to run behind his pads and breaking through arm tackles.
Walton also showed excellent speed when healthy for the Hurricanes. He made an impact for the team the minute he stepped on campus, leading the team in touchdowns as a freshman. Miami also used him on kick returns and punt coverage units earlier in his career. Before the injury derailed his season, he showed three down capabilities with seven receptions (56 career receptions).
This would be a solid addition to the running back group of Perine (a big bruising back) and Thompson (the shifty pass catcher). It would also be insurance for Thompson who suffered an injury late in the season.
