The Cleveland Browns have been a national joke for 20 years and just went 0-16, but Baker Mayfield says he can fix the franchise.

Nobody will ever say Mayfield doesn’t have swagger. On Friday, the Oklahoma Sooners star stepped to the podium and fielded a litany of questions from eager reporters. While most of it was bland, the one quote that stood out came about the Browns.

Mayfield, never short on confidence, says if anybody can fix them, he’s the guy.

Whether or not you believe Mayfield could actually turn around Cleveland, you have to appreciate the bravado. The Browns have won exactly one game in two years, and could easily have gone 0-16 in consecutive campaigns if not for the continuing search of a competent kicker for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Many believe that Mayfield is going to be a top-five pick, potentally going to the Denver Broncos or New York Jets at No. 5 and 6, respectively. It would be a fascinating fit to see him play with the Jets, getting to deal with the New York media on a daily basis.

Then again, wouldn’t it be great fun to see Mayfield and the Browns become an item? It’s not likely considering he reminds some people of Johnny Manziel, and Cleveland can’t afford to live that nightmare again.

Still, the mind wanders to the braggadocio under center, throwing the ball around throw the lake effect snow in Cleveland, fans in full throat. Mayfield might never get the chance to prove he could get the Browns going in the right direction, but it would be awesome to watch him try.
