2018 NFL Mock Draft: Josh Rosen heads to Broncos
By Brad Weiss
Will they go linebacker or defensive tackle? That is the question for the Oakland Raiders, who need a lot of help at both positions this offseason. Luckily for the Raiders, this draft class is loaded with talent at both of those positions, so they should be able to get what they need in the first round. While a lot of Raiders fans are clamoring for Vita Vea from Washington, Roquan Smith from Georgia has to be the pick.
Sure, everybody doing a mock draft is picking Smith to go the Raiders, but it is for good reason. He is the best linebacker this draft class has to offer, and he plays on the inside. The Raiders seriously need help at middle linebacker, even if they bring back NaVorro Bowman, as smart linebackers are needed in new defensive coordinator Paul Guenther’s scheme.
Smith had some issues during the Combine, including not benching due to a shoulder injury. He also pulled his hamstring while running the 40-yard dash, so the injury issues are a bit alarming. Still, he has the talent to be a standout player at the next level, and while 6-10 certainly was a disappoint last season, it will lead to them getting a top-10 talent in the draft.
