Danny Amendola has a Super Bowl ring, but will he be getting a fat check this offseason because of it?

Winning a Super Bowl does for a guy’s bank account what winning an Oscar does — gives it security forever. When someone wins an Oscar, they’re always ‘Oscar-winner…’ in a trailer or on a movie poster. A player winning a Super Bowl means teams will view him as a piece of a championship puzzle, which makes Danny Amendola an intriguing free agent on the market.

Just like how the Oscar-winner prefix sometimes leads to bad films getting a better rep than they should, teams sometimes overvalue and therefore overpay for Super Bowl-winning talent. That shouldn’t be the case if the right team lands Amendola at the right price.

Best fits

1. Buffalo Bills

Usually, it’s the Patriots poaching players from the Bills roster and turning them into championship pieces. Perhaps Sean McDermott can flip the script, as Amendola is an intriguing option in his own right, divorced from the Patriots connection. Buffalo needs help at receiver but have the right structure in place for Amendola to work. The fear is a team will overpay and make Amendola their No. 1, which the Bills won’t have to do. Kelvin Benjamin is the top target and either Jordan Matthews or Zay Jones can be a No. 2, which allows Amendola to remain a dangerous slot threat.

2. Detroit Lions

Detroit already has two top targets in Matthew Stafford’s passing game, but Amendola could be a missing third. Golden Tate and Marvin Jones being complimented by Amendola in the slot sounds like the type of nasty concoction which could make the offense dangerous. There’s also the Matt Patricia element to factor in, giving the Lions an unexpected edge which could lure Amendola to the Motor City.

3. Oakland Raiders

Dig, if you will, Jon Gruden playing everyone for a fool. Maybe his whole thing about bringing the game back to 1998 was just a troll to everyone assuming he’s going to screw this thing up. Everything about this feels like an Al Davis move, which defines turning the clock back two decades. Amendola in silver and black, complimenting Amari Cooper, is so crazy that it might work. When Gruden went to Tampa Bay in 2003, he made sure to sign Keenan McCardell to bolster what ended up being a Super Bowl-winning roster. Don’t sleep on how sneaky good Amendola might be in Gruden’s new (old?) offense.
