Geno Smith rumors: Top 3 landing spots
After washing out in a brief chance to start with the New York Giants, Geno Smith will now look to his third team for another opportunity.
Geno Smith was once the savior in New York .. with the Jets. Drafted 39th-overall by Gang Green back in 2013, the thought was Smith would become the starter for the next decade, leading the Jets to the promised land. Instead, he was a complete mess on and off the field, and ended up playing as a backup for the other team that calls MetLife Stadium home.
So, at 28 years old, why is Smith an option for anybody? For starters, he’s a good athlete with a nice arm. Yes, he turns the ball over. Yes, he’s never going to be a starting quarterback, but he comes cheap and still has a bit of upside.
Best fits
1. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle has been without a suitable backup for Russell Wilson since he came into the league as a rookie in 2012. Smith isn’t a high-end No. 2, but he’s capable of starting and winning a few games should Wilson get injured. The Seahawks are also limited in their cap space at the moment, making this a nice fit.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay is losing Ryan Fitzpatrick to free agency, opening up a spot behind Jameis Winston. The two have a similar playing style, with Smith and Winston both mobile quarterbacks (who unfortunately both turn the ball over too much). General manager Jason Licht might be willing to roll the dice on a former second-round talent.

3. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens have one of the worst quarterbacks situations in the NFL, starting with a vastly-overpaid Joe Flacco. That said, Flacco won’t be going anywhere, but backup signal-caller Ryan Mallett could be jettisoned. Smith isn’t an upgrade over many, but he would be over the strong-armed, no-accuracy Mallett.
