The Cardinals, much like nearly every team in the NFL, continue to look for stability on the offensive line and Humboldt State’s Alex Cappa is one player who could represent a nice developmental prospect on day three of the draft.

Cappa’s massive size (6-foot-7 and 305 pounds) put him on scouts’ radars despite playing at a small school and he’s helped his draft stock significantly after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. NFL Network’s Mike Mayock called Cappa’s highlights “the nastiest tape he’s ever seen” and that type of mean streak almost assures him of having his name called on draft day.

Obviously, playing at Humboldt State raises questions about a prospect’s ability to handle the extreme jump to the pro game but Cappa has checked off plenty of boxes in the All-Star circuit against top-level competition so far. He could go as high as the third round but if he’s here at this spot, the Cards would be wise to pounce on him.

7th round

Auburn’s Stephen Roberts is one of the more athletic safety prospects in this draft, but a lack of size could push him to the end of day three.

With Tyrann Mathieu and Budda Baker set as Arizona’s safety tandem for the foreseeable future, the Cardinals could add Roberts in the seventh round to compete for a backup safety and special teams role. One interesting note? New assistant defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison coached at Auburn in 2013 and 2014, meaning Carlton Davis, Tray Matthews, and Roberts all all potential options for Arizona come draft day.
