The Washington Capitals’ Alexander Ovechkin has hit a  huge milestone by collecting his 600th career goal. Let’s take a look at his top five career goals.

Alexander Ovechkin is the greatest goal scorer in the NHL of our generation. He has scored 50 goals five times in his career and won the Maurice Richard Trophy for most goals in the league seven times.

On Monday night in the Washington Capitals’ game against the Winnipeg Jets, Ovechkin reached rarified air when he scored the 600th goal of his career:

By hitting 600 goals, Ovechkin has become the first Russian to join the elite group of 19 other players. He has provided hockey fans plenty of highlights over the course of his career, but only five can be the best.

5. Alexander Ovechkin ‘s first NHL goal

Ovechkin scored two goals in his debut against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 5, 2005. Little did fans know that we would see so many Ovechkin goals look like this one. His famous “one-timer” has been terrorizing goalies ever since Ovechkin joined the league. It is still effective to this day, more than 10 years later. This goal would jumpstart one of the most electric rookie seasons in a long time. Ovechkin finished the year with 52 goals and won the Calder Trophy for the league’s best rookie. As a rookie, Ovechkin was also in the race to win the Maurice Richard Trophy, finishing four goals behind winner Jonathan Cheechoo.

Ovechkin was the No. 1 overall pick of the Capitals during the 2004 draft. The NHL lost that upcoming season to a lockout. After the lockout ended, the Pittsburgh Penguins drafted Sidney Crosby. They both made their season debut in the 2005 season. They have been compared to each other ever since. There have been countless matchups as they are in the same division which brings us perfectly to our next Ovechkin moment.
