Tim Tebow’s dreams of playing in the MLB aren’t going to come true with the Mets.

Are you sitting? You might want to grab a seat for this news. Are you sitting? Great.

Tim Tebow, the man who only a few hours ago, was called the ‘most famous player in baseball’ by his teammate David Wright, has been cut.

The 30-year-old “outfielder” has been assigned to minor league camp, finishing spring training with one hit in 19 plate appearances – that’s a .056 batting average for those doing the math.

Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson made comments before the season about Tebow playing in the major leagues, and the media asked Tebow directly today after news broke of his new assignment. And of course, Tebow was nothing but smiles, rainbows, and positive thoughts on the Mets organization (I could not be rolling my eyes harder right now).

Tebow and his clean-cut hair and his sweet demeanor made me feel a multitude of feelings as I watched that clip. But ultimately, what upsets me the most is that cutting an garbage player like Tebow is something I need to write about.

Like, you clicked on this article because you in somewhat have feelings towards Tebow, whether it is good or bad, and wanted to see what was new in his life. Well, the 30-year-old prospect who slashed .231/.307/.356 with a 23.6% strikeout rate in high A last season, is still nothing more than an attraction.

Look, Tebow is a nice guy and his experience winning in college football I’m sure applies in some ways to the Mets young squad, but Tebow is not a prospect. He’s barely a baseball player, and it doesn’t matter how sweet the guy is, he does nothing but fill a roster spot in spring training.

As polarizing as Tebow can be, and while he isn’t really doing anything to harm the Mets, his presence in the MLB makes me want to huff enamel – and yes, I’m still bitter he beat my Bears in 2011.
