Danny Amendola is staying in the AFC East but is taking his talents to South Beach next season.

Last year was such a disaster for the Miami Dolphins that all pressure will be on in 2018. The Jay Cutler experiment will be remembered as some sort of trippy fever dream, and the franchise’s best receiver is in Cleveland now. But fans are hoping that some order is restored by Ryan Tannehill stepping back into the starting quarterback role after missing all of last season with a torn ACL.

One way Adam Gase is hoping the Dolphins bounce back is by adding Danny Amendola into the mix. The ex-Patriots slot man will be taking his talents to South Beach next year, but it’s a dicey move that all depends on how the offense looks schematically this season.

Contract details

We don’t know the specifics of the deal, but it will likely be significant. It could also open the door to Amendola pulling a Josh McDaniels and saying he’s going somewhere else in order to entice the Patriots to sweeten the pot.

National reaction

It’s not a commentary on the Dolphins chance, but the fact that people are worried about the Patriots without him is a win for Miami.

It’s hard to get excited about this when Amendola is essentially an older version of Jarvis Landry. Miami traded Landry away to Cleveland and will be replacing him with a guy who had a lot of success with Tom Brady throwing him the ball.

Ryan Tannehill is not Tom Brady. The problem here is that Landry is talented but couldn’t do much in Miami’s offense last year. It wasn’t a player problem, it was a play problem and there’s nothing to say Amendola won’t show the same production as Landry did if nothing changes.
