BIG3 announces Clyde Drexler is new commissioner

NBA legend Clyde “The Glide” Drexler has officially been announced as BIG3’s new Commissioner with a three-year contract through the 2020 season.

Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets icon, Clyde “The Glide” Drexler, is moving up from coach of BIG3 team Power to the league’s Commissioner role. Drexler replaces first Commissioner Roger Mason Jr., signing a three-year contract that will see him through the 2020 season. The NBA Champion and ten-time NBA All-Star will join BIG3’s Board of Directors alongside co-founders Ice Cube, Jeff Kwatinetz and Chairman of the Board Amy Trask.

Last season, Drexler coached BIG3 team Power which featured Corey Maggette, Cuttino Mobley, DeShawn Stevenson, Jerome Williams, Rasual Butler, Moochie Norris (traded for Butler), and Kendall Gill. Power finished third overall in the standings.

Co-founders Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz were thrilled to have Drexler as the league’s new Commissioner, stating:

"“Clyde is a consummate professional, revered businessman, and indisputably one of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. We were thrilled to have his early support as a coach for our inaugural season, and couldn’t be more pleased to welcome him to the executive team as BIG3 Commissioner.”"

NBA Hall of Famer Clyde “The Glide” Drexler on being named Commissioner:

"“I wholeheartedly believe in what Ice Cube and Jeff have brought to life with the BIG3. The level of play and the professionalism I witnessed last season far exceeded anything that many of us involved ever imagined. I am proud to assume the role of BIG3 Commissioner and look forward to working closely with Ice Cube and Jeff as we continue to build off of the momentum established in our first season.”"

BIG3 has also announced that the NBA’s Chauncey Billups, Jermaine O’Neal, Corey Maggette and Jerome ‘Junk Yard Dog’ Williams have been added to the league’s Board as Directors and Board Observers along with Attorney Mark Geragos.
