Kansas City Chiefs full 2018 NFL mock draft
Dee Ford is on his fifth-year option, and there’s a very good chance he’s playing elsewhere in 2019. Justin Houston has been a perennial Pro Bowler when healthy, but injuries consistently threaten the 29-year-old. With all that in mind, the Chiefs should consider Kemoko Turay if he’s on the board in the fourth round.
Turay is listed at 6-foot-2 and 255 pounds, and ideal 3-4 outside linebacker. There’s a chance he’s gone toward the end of Day 2, but some rawness in his game might keep the Rutgers star around for a few extra picks. The Chiefs would have time to develop his game, using him in subpackages and special teams to start.
Griffin was the star of the combine in early March, showcasing incredible athleticism and strength despite having only one hand. At Indianapolis, the former Central Florida star benched 20 reps of 225 pounds and ran an absurd 4.38 40-yard dash, the fastest time by a linebacker this decade.
While this might seem like a redundant pick for Kansas City, there’s a method in the madness. The Chiefs should release Frank Zombo and Dadi Nciolas prior to Week 1, both saving money and allowing Griffin and Turay to slide into their roles. Additionally, Tamba Hali was released a few weeks ago, meaning their are ample roster spots up for grabs. It’s all about getting younger and faster.
