NHL Power Rankings: Bruins climb as the Golden Knights fall

21. New York Rangers (+3)

If the New York Rangers are supposed to be tanking, they are doing it wrong. When they sent a letter to their fan,s it seemed like the Rangers would be pulling out all the stops to get to the bottom of the standings. Instead, they are hovering around mediocrity. They are only 10 points out of the playoffs. The Rangers will not be making a push for the playoffs, but they certainly did not position themselves well for this year’s draft. As other teams began to drop off and go for a better pick, the Rangers stayed put and will end up with a decent pick, but not as great as they will want.

Last week included big wins for the Rangers against the Carolina Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Penguins. They were even able to pick up a “loser” point in an overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues. They will have two days of rest as they begin their schedule for this week, opening at home to the Columbus Blue Jackets. They will then travel to the west to take on the Philadelphia Flyers before ending the week against the Buffalo Sabres. The Rangers will really need to identify what their plan is for the future. Will they load up on veterans to get Lundqvist his ring? Or will they continue to sell off and gain future assets?
