The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have the best rivalry in baseball, and they could end up battling outside the U.S.

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees could arguably be one of the best rivalries in all of sports. Every series is special and brings a nostalgic buzz to the ballpark. Also, MLB is trying to expand its efforts to bring back younger generations into the game. Exposure is huge for any business, and MLB could fly the rivals over to England in 2019. According to Bloomberg, the two teams are negotiating a deal to play in June of 2019.

This would be a great opportunity for all involved, as it puts MLB as a whole on a global stage. With that said, baseball would be reaching to other parts of the world instead of Japan. Having two great teams battle it out in your backyard is special. Furthermore, for many in England, this would be their first MLB game, so this should draw in tons of people. It’s a smart move and will grow additional fandom internationally.

Being able to see exciting players such as Mookie Betts, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge will be a sight to see. The Red Sox have gone international before, when they went to Japan before the 2008 season, so the franchise is used to transitioning from the United States. This seems like it picked up speed quickly, as it is only a year away. Additionally, this series will draw in a ton of viewers on TV, an area where the game has lacked.

We all want the game sped up a little bit, but if there was always special events like this, it wouldn’t be a big deal. There is already plenty of excitement around this upcoming season, and having a possible international showcase next year makes it even better. MLB is making the most out of its opportunities to grow as a brand and draw back fans into the game on an international stage.
