2018 NFL Mock Draft: Sam Darnold goes to Browns
By Brad Weiss
The 2018 NFL Draft is only a month away, and with the Cleveland Browns picking at No. 1 again, they have to use the selection on a quarterback.
With a little over a month before the 2018 NFL Draft kicks off, the Cleveland Browns are still on the clock at No. 1. The hapless franchise has done a lot this offseason to improve their roster, and with two picks in the first four selections, they should get even better at the end of April.
The Buffalo Bills will also pick twice in the first round, and they have been moving up the draft order as of late. Instead of their first pick coming at No. 21, they will now pick at No. 12, and just may trade their way into the top-10.
Here is a look at our latest 2018 NFL Mock Draft.
The consensus around the NFL world is that the Cleveland Browns are going to take USC quarterback Sam Darnold with the first overall pick. While there are a couple of names that have been thrown around, this team needs a franchise quarterback, and Darnold is the best of the bunch. The Browns also pick at No. 4, so they are in prime position to really improve the roster in April, and actually put a competitive team on the field for once.
Darnold can certainly make all the throws at the NFL level, and he won’t be pushed into service right away. The Browns went out and grabbed Tyrod Taylor this offseason, and he would be expected to start in Week 1. That would give Darnold time to get his feet wet in the NFL, and not have to play his first season behind a suspect offensive line.
In addition to Taylor, the Browns also went out and got Jarvis Landry this offseason, and will pair him with Josh Gordon. That gives the Browns to elite wide receiver, so any quarterback would be happy to be throwing to that tandem. Cleveland could also get Saquon Barkley at No. 4, making their offense a formidable force next season, which is something we have not seen from them in some time.
