Baseball fans have waited all winter for the 2018 season to start and Ian Happ for the Chicago Cubs made the wait worth it.

The 2018 season for MLB got started in pretty epic fashion on Thursday. The Cubs are visiting the Marlins in an ESPN game and it took center stage as the only game going so early with rainouts. Miami starting pitcher Jose Urena had the honor of throwing the very first pitch of the season. Chicago Cubs utility man Ian Happ had other ideas.

It was a crazy way to start the baseball season but the nightmare didn’t end there for Urena. He threw 36 pitches as the Cubs batted around in the first, scoring three runs. Urena walked two batters and hit another three, making his first Opening Day start a very difficult one right off the bat.

At least one person in Chicago wasn’t happy to see the moonshot home run and that’s Michael Cerami, who covers Chicago sports for Bleacher Report.

Michael has said he’s a man of his word and to sty tuned, so he should be jumping into the lake at some point later today.

Overall, this isn’t the best start for the Marlins. This is a team that already has concerns about how many fans they can attract on a good day. It’s not going to help that they sold off their entire outfield in money saving moves. New owner Derek Jeter is building from the ground up and it appears to be a long road back to any type of glory.

As far as the Cubs go, this is the exact type of start they wanted. They’re on a mission to get back to the World Series and their offense should be the strength of their squad. Everyone knows Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, but players like Happ and Kyle Schwarber can take them to another level.

Even if you’re not a fan of either team, at least it’s good to know baseball is back. There’s a really good chance that the Cubs will be putting on a home run display more days than not in 2018.
