The Champions League quarterfinals kick off on Tuesday, with La Liga side Sevilla hosting German champions Bayern Munich. Sevilla enter the first leg as heavy underdogs, sitting sixth in La Liga. Bayern are running away with the Bundesliga, holding a 17 point lead on second place Schalke.
Sevilla held Barcelona to a 2-2 draw on Saturday. However, Vincenzo Montello’s squad have struggled in La Liga lately, picking up only 14 points over their last 10 games. Montello decided not to play Wissam Ben Yedder against Barcelona, saving the striker for Tuesday game. In Champions League this season, Ben Yedder has scored eight goals in seven games for Sevilla, including both goals in the round of 16 against Manchester United. Sevilla will be without Ever Banega, who will serve his one-game yellow card suspension in the first leg.
On Saturday, Bayern utterly dominated Borussia Dortmund, winning 6-0. Robert Lewandowski scored a hat trick, giving him 35 goals in 38 games this season. Franck Ribery and James Rodriguez were excellent, with both players scoring and setting up goals. Defensively, Dortmund struggled to play the ball out of the back and struggled to generate many scoring chances. Bayern applying heavy pressure in midfield, forcing mistakes that lead to goals. Against Sevilla, Jupp Heynckes will likely use a similar strategy, attempting to force mistakes from at the back.
