The first-ever NBA 2k League Draft is today, Wednesday, April 4. Here’s everything you need to know.
Gaming history will be made as the inaugural NBA 2k League Draft will result in 102 talented gamers being selected by the league’s 17 teams to compete in the first season. With the event mere hours away, there is plenty to keep fans satiated until the first pick is announced.
Event details
The draft will be held at the Hulu Theatre inside Madison Square Garden in New York City and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET. A free, live stream of the draft will be on the NBA 2k League’s official Twitch channel. NBA TV will also broadcast the draft. All the league’s social media accounts like Twitter will have live updates as well.
The draft will follow a traditional snake format and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will announce the first pick. For those unfamiliar with how snake drafts work, the team which selects first in the first round will select last in the second round, the team which selects second in the first round will select second-to-last in the second round and so on. There will be six rounds and each team will have one selection in each round to fill our their six-person roster.
The draft order for the first round was set using a lottery on Tuesday, March 13. It is as follows with the associated NBA team in parentheses:

The 13 NBA franchises not listed here do not operate NBA 2k League franchises at this time. There has been much more revealed by the league about what life will look like for the players after the draft.
For 10 of the league’s top draft picks, there will be a nearly immediate opportunity to put their skills on display to a larger audience. The NBA 2k League Draft Clash will be held on Friday, April 6 at the PAX East 2018 gaming conference in Boston. The event will be on Twitch and feature a five-on-five, best-of-three tournament. That event and much more will be sponsored by Alienware.
The NBA 2k League announced on Tuesday that Alienware is also going to be a title sponsor of an in-season halftime show during the season as well. All league contests will be played on Alienware PCs with players’ choice of controllers on Dell monitors and Intel processors. Intel will also be a major sponsor of the league as an official technology partner and the presenting sponsor of the NBA 2k League Studio. The venues the league uses promise to be as impressive as the technology, as evidenced by the venue that Kings Gaming has put on display.
Those who are drafted by Kings Gaming and join the team’s general manager, Shaquille O’Neal, in the franchise, will train at the first dedicated esports facility and content studio inside of a pro sports venue, which is the Kings’ Golden 1 Center.
