Barcelona have all but wrapped up the title in La Liga with eight matches left to play. They sit top of the table with 76 points and still have not lost in league play. Atletico Madrid are in second with 67 with Real Madrid closing in with 63. There are only a few matches left where they could potentially slip up, like Valencia, Villarreal or Real Madrid, but all of those are also in the comfort of their home stadium. Barcelona have basically been a two-man scoring team this season. Lionel Messi has 26 league goals and Luis Suarez has 22 of his own. They’ll be looking to add to those tallies against a bottom-half side.
Leganes, like most of La Liga outside the bottom three, have little chance of being relegated come the end of the season. They sit in 14th place with 36 points, 15 above 18th-place Las Palmas. It’s not mathematically impossible for them to implode and go down, but it’s highly unlikely. Being in the middle of the table at this points in the season, almost guaranteed of safety, it’s sometimes tough to get a team up for matches like this. Leganes lost to Barcelona 3-0 earlier in the year as well.
