5 best games of the 2017-18 NBA season

3. Lakers over 76ers, Dec. 7

Another tight game involving the Sixers was exciting for other than “playoff implication” reasons, as two of the league’s historic franchises have been rebuilding for years, and both now have “young cores” who are the future.

In both contests between the clubs this year, the games were entertaining but the second was closer and the young stars shined. Lonzo Ball had 10 points, eight assists and eight boards. Brandon Ingram had 21 points, six assists and seven boards — and hit the game-winning 3.

Ben Simmons had 12 points, 15 dimes and a dozen rebounds in the losing effort. Joel Embiid dropped 33 points, adding six assists, seven boards and five blocks. It was everything you could have hoped for and a little bit more as the Lakers won 107-104.
