The Chicago Cubs have struggled so far this season, and now they have lost star Anthony Rizzo to the 10-day DL.

In 2018, the Chicago Cubs haven’t been off to the best start. The club split the series with a terrible Miami Marlins team, but then had a decent showing against the Milwaukee Brewers. Now, they will be without first baseman Anthony Rizzo due to a back injury. The slugger will be on the 10-day DL. So far with Rizzo in the lineup, the club has the sixth-best offense in the National League. We’ll see how it goes without the infielder.

A problem for the team so far is strikeouts. The Cubs had 58 strikeouts through only five games, and they wouldn’t last long in the postseason with that stat. They need to cut down on those if they want to win it all. That has come from the majority of their lineup, which is mainly because of countless young players. Over time, Chicago should mature and settle in. Rizzo is a huge part of that, as he is one of the leaders of this team.

With that said, hopefully the team is in full gear when he is back again. He is an instrumental part of this lineup, and his energy and production translates to his teammates. The Cubs have one of the best lineups in baseball, and losing Rizzo hurts, even if it’s only for a short time. They’ll have to make do without him, which shouldn’t be extremely difficult considering they have Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber and Wilson Contreras as just a few of their scary hitters.

The Cubs are an elite team when they’re offense is clicking on all cylinders. Although Rizzo will be out for a week or so, the Cubs shouldn’t miss a beat. Hopefully his return will just be another formidable hitter returning to an already dangerous lineup.
