5 potential landing spots for Dez Bryant
3. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers have locked in Jimmy Garoppolo as their quarterback of the future after his great six-game sample, and they quickly signed Marquise Goodwin to a contract extension after he delivered the best season of his career last year. Pierre Garcon is expected to be back at full strength well ahead of Week 1, after a neck injury shortened his 2017 campaign, but San Francisco should still be in the market for a wide receiver.
If Bryant won’t take a pay cut from the Cowboys, and he wants to get close to what he was slated to make this season elsewhere, the 49ers may be the best spot for that to happen. They still have over $47 million in salary cap space for this year (via Over The Cap), and an incoming draft class is not going to put a prohibitive dent in that.
From San Francisco’s end, they could be compelled to keep up with a similarly rising “Jones” in the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams have not rested on last year’s division title, with multiple big moves to make themselves the winners of this offseason. Bryant would be a big-name signing, if nothing else, and the 49ers can tap into what’s sure to be a lot of motivation to prove he’s not quite done.
