Filip Forsberg flashes dirty dangles in Predators’ Game 1 win over Avalanche
By C.L. Kohuss
In a game in which many thought Nathan MacKinnon might take over, it was Filip Forsberg who ultimately sealed the Game 1 victory for the Nashville Predators.
My word Forsberg has some sick moves. Going into this series against Colorado, most were certain that the Predators would take it to the Avs. If you have a playoff bracket, it likely features Nashville moving on to the second round. It might even feature them as the eventual Stanley Cup winner. That makes sense, they were (points wise) the best team in hockey.
Forsberg might not have been predicted, though. Considering Nashville has arguably the best defensive corp and goaltender in the NHL, it’s a small but easy oversight. Well, you can add young Filip to the list of stars to watch in these playoffs.

Certainly, he could have been upset that MacKinnon was getting more love and coverage. That won’t be the case now, at least for the next 48 hours. Forsberg finished with two goals, his first putting the Predators ahead for good. They won this game 5-2, but let’s also mention the stout effort Avs was giving all the way up until Forsberg made them look like traffic cones.
Colorado came out with a ton of speed, notably from Sam Girard, who could play as a bigger factor if he keeps getting minutes. The Avs were up 2-1 at one point, so they were valiant in their attempt. But this is Nashville we’re talking about. And guaranteed next game Forsberg will be one to watch. If this club finds a hot streak from him, combined with the excellence portrayed by goaltender Pekka Rinne tonight (25 of 27 saved), this team is going very far.
