The short track action at Bristol should be exciting, but that’s assuming it doesn’t get rained out. See how to watch the Food City 500 live.
The Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway was super interesting in its early and middle stages but needed a late restart to add late intrigue. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers are hoping to one-up that race in the Food City 500, but there’s a bit of a catch.
That would be the weather. The forecast for Sunday looks grim, with both thunderstorms and regular showers predicted for the Bristol area. Some hours have a 100 percent chance of rain, so it’s more a matter of when it will rain and not if.
NASCAR is doing its best to compensate by moving up the start time of the Food City 500 by an hour. Whether that works or the race is run on Sunday, there’s going to be at least two fast cars that have to work their way through the entire field to contend for the win — and they just so happen to be driven by teammates.
Both Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch, who qualified second, have to go to backup cars after wrecking in different practice sessions and will start in the rear of the field. That could give Kyle Busch, who’s not short on speed or confidence, even more of a chance to get out in front starting from the pole and make everyone have to chase him down.
