Manchester City became the joint earliest title winners in Premier League history, but where do they rank among the greatest Premier League sides ever?

Manchester City have ended their roughest spell of the season by winning the Premier League with five games to spare. Having beaten Spurs on Saturday, the Citizens needed their local rivals to slip up against last-place West Brom.

Jose Mourinho’s had side spoiled City’s title party with a win in the Manchester derby last weekend, but failed to do so a second time after conceding a late Jay Rodriguez goal to hand City the title. The noisy neighbors have truly eclipsed the red side of Manchester this season, but where do they rank among the greatest Premier League title winners ever?

5. Manchester City 2017-18

Well, that was a tad anti-climatic, wasn’t it? It’s difficult to judge Manchester City’s exact spot among the Premier League’s greatest sides. At the moment, fifth is a good spot for them, but they have a chance to shoot up the table come May.

For instance, if Manchester City win their last five games, they’ll break Chelsea’s record points total of 95 from the 2004-05 season. Should they win four more games, they’ll take Chelsea’s record number of wins, set last season.

However, it could all still go the other way if City completely turn off, limp over the line and make the title race look closer than it was. Fifth is where they remain for now, but a good finish to the season could see them easily become the best ever Premier league winners.
