Black Lightning season 1 finale synopsis: The Shadow of Death: The Book of War
By Zoe West
Let’s take a look at whats coming in the finale of Black Lightning season 1.
There’s enough left to do in Black Lightning that I doubt all the storylines will be resolved in the season 1 finale. That said, there should be enough time for most of the characters to find pretty steady ground to stand on before the off-season.
The good news is that Black Lightning has already been renewed for a second season, so there isn’t (or shouldn’t be) too much concern about where the characters end up. Regardless of where that is, they won’t leave us hanging next year. That may also allow the show to carry. over some storylines between the seasons, and not necessarily storylines about Jefferson, or even Anissa.
That fact is reflected in the synopsis for the episode, which doesn’t offer too much hope of closure. It READS:
"The Season 1 finale: The aftermath of the showdown with Black Lightning leaves everyone reeling. Meanwhile, Tobias gathers his forces."
The big “showdown” took place in episode 12. In the confrontation and it was mostly Anissa who drove Tobias and his henchmen away. At the end of the episode, the officials in charge at the ASA thought Black Lightning was dead and were looking for his body. Jefferson meanwhile, was unconscious and had been taken to a safe house by Gambi and his family. Presumably, part of the finale will be Jefferson recovering from his injuries.
Tobias, meanwhile, was tasked with finding Black Lightning’s body and killing/capturing Thunder. This should be a delightfully nostalgic task for him. After all, he built a lot of his reputation off of killing Black Lightning all those years ago. It really is history repeating itself. The first time they fought Tobias thought he had won, and threw Jefferson into the river, but didn’t find the body. Black Lightning wasn’t dead that time either. It follows that he might take the mission a bit more seriously this time.

The title of the final episode: “Shadow of Death: The Book of War” also sounds more like a beginning than an end. Bringing in a war at this point makes absolutely no sense unless it will continue into the future.
